Downloadable CANopen Master protocol stack

Hi,
my name is Remo and I am in charge for R&D. We are in progress to migrate from COM-CN-COM modules to Netx component integrated in our hardware boards.
At least at the beginning, we would like to continue to use downloadable firmware as for COM-CN-COM modules, so we would like to know if:
1) is the Netx CANopen Master available as downloadable firmware?
2) is the Sycon Configurator available for NetX CANopen Master?
3) can the Netx CANopen Master be used also with NetX50?
4) some of our applications requires two CANopen Master channels. Since NetX supports two fieldbus channels, is the NetX CANopen Master stack configurable for using two phisical indipendent channels? How much memory does it require per each channel?
5) our applications are in motion control area, so performance is always the key point to start with. Do you have a performance comparison between CANopen Master running on COM-CN-COM and NEtX modules? Considere that we would need to refresh the CANopen devices every 2 msec and with COM-CN-COM modules we cannot refresh them at less than 4-5 msec.

Hi Remo,

I see one problem for your application. Currently we have only the comX modules
(successor for the COM-C modules with the netX chip) for Real Time Ethernet Protocols available.

  1. Yes, the CANopen Master loadable FW for netX is available.[/*:m]
  2. Yes.[/*:m]
  3. Here for you need an other version of the Firmware, because the netX50 is not compatible with the netX500/100.[/*:m]
  4. This configuration is theoretically possible. Currently I not know a comparison configuration.[/*:m]
  5. Currently we have no performance comparisons between the com-C and comX modules.[/*:m]

Thanks AJ for your prompt answers.
Yes I know that at the moment there are ComX modules only, however we have in our plan the redesign of our motion control board where we will substitute the circuitry and connectors for the COM-C modules with the schematics for the NetX component and its peripherals.
For this purpose we would need to define all external resources needed by the NetX to manage up to two filedbus channels: 2 CANOpen Master, 1 CANopen Master and 1 Profibus Slave, 1 Profibus Master and 1 Profibus Slave,...
Can you help us to find the documentation and/or information to dimension the external memory (if needed) to run the above combination of protocol stacks for the NetX50 and for Netx100?

Hi Remo,

when you are using the same size of SDRAM as we use on our development boards you will be on the right side.

Normally we use 8MB SDRAM.
