PROFIdrive Profile

There is no better way for a drive to get a profile

Hilscher offers its base implementation of the PROFIdrive Profile in source code free of charge and managed the development for the quasi-standard reference implementation in drive technology.

The project was launched with a kick off meeting on 27th of January 2011 at Hilscher / Hattersheim. More than twenty companies are following that project and few of them are active by discussing the specification and reviewing the source code.
With the alpha version demonstrating a running drive at the Hannover Fair we reached the first milestone in time. You can download the software, have a look on it and hopefully you have some comments for us. Now we have the tools in place to share the development efforts with you.
Next will be a netviewer Meeting explaining the actual status of the alpha version and discussing the further development steps to reach a stable beta version end of June.
In the release phase, the interfaces and functions are fixed, so that the implementation in your own drive can be done in parallel. Towards the end of October, a plug-fest is planned for testing and exchanging experience. The schedule is designed so that the drive can be presented with a good working PROFIdrive Profile on the SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2011.

More technical details you will find over that link.

Interested companies and institutes with expertise in Motion or PROFINET-/PROFIBUS for review, test, develop or port to other hardware platforms or operating systems, we ask for registration in the adjacent form. The whole development takes place under the "industrialNETworX public licence" which allows the generated PROFIdrive Profile source code to use free of charge under the acceptance of the third party rights of the PROFIdrive technology.
There are also other Technology Suppliers involved in that project which will support the PROFIdrive Profile on other hardware platforms beside the netX.

Facts at a glance

  • The implementation provides the basis for a flexible handling of the PROFIdrive parameters and includes the basic drive functions for
    • initialization and configuration
    • state machine of the drive
    • simple motion control frontend
  • These functions are combined in a frame work, which can be easily adapted and expanded to the respective manufacturer-specific drive features
  • Interface wrapper and capeselated operating system calls make porting to different hardware platforms and operating systems secure.
